Dr Imtiaz Hashmi is a UK-trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with nearly 32 years of experience and specialises in scoliosis, spinal pathologies, and joint replacements.
Dr Hashmi brings a wealth of experience in spinal surgery and orthopaedics. He has spent much of his career as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi. He is renowned for his expertise in treating all spinal deformities, including kyphosis and scoliosis, in children and adults. He is also proficient in minimally invasive surgery of the spine, kyphoplasty, vertebroplasty procedures, spinal stenosis surgeries, and primary and complex revision spine operations. Furthermore, his proficiency extends to complex total knee and hip replacements, arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and the management of thoracic and lumbosacral spine conditions, including tumours and fractures.
Educationally, Dr Hashmi obtained his MBBS from King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan. He later achieved a Fellowship from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons from Edinburgh and completed his Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, UK. His commitment to education continued as he served as a Professor and Chairman of Orthopaedic and Spine Surgery at Ziauddin University in Karachi.
He is the esteemed Founder and President of the Society of Spine Surgeons of Pakistan, and he has also honourably served as the Vice President of the Pakistan Orthopaedic Association. His pioneering efforts in establishing and advancing spinal surgery in Pakistan have been recognised at the highest level, earning him the prestigious Presidential Award of Pakistan. Dr Hashmi’s unwavering dedication to spine surgery and influential roles in medical education and leadership within professional societies truly highlight his extensive expertise and deep commitment to advancing the field.
