Jon Conroy is an established Orthopaedic Surgeon from the UK, renowned for his expertise in treating complex hip and knee conditions. He joined Healthpoint Hospital to introduce Mako Robotic Hip and Knee surgery to the region, having 10 years of experience in robotic-assisted surgery. Before moving to Abu Dhabi in 2022, he was the first surgeon north of London to use a Mako robot, performing around 1,000 robotic cases, the third-highest number in the UK. Jon has pioneered Mako robotic-assisted surgeries in the Middle East and UAE, including the first Uni-Compartment Knee Replacement, Total Hip Replacement, and Total Knee Replacement. Since 2017, he has certified many senior surgeons across the Middle East, Asia, and Europe as a Mako instructor and remains active in teaching robotics, taking international referrals globally. His subspecialty interests include treating sports-related hip and knee conditions, minimally invasive joint replacement surgery, revision surgery, and second opinions. Jon qualified from St Andrews and Manchester University Medical Schools in 1995, completed board examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 2004, and UK Higher Surgical Training (CCST) in 2006. He trained abroad at Sunnybrook and St. Michael's Hospitals through the University of Toronto and completed a specialist fellowship in Revision Hip and Knee Surgery in Brisbane, Australia. Jon holds a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction from Leeds University and has been involved in designing non-metallic knee replacements, a successful hip replacement, and instruments for hip arthroscopy. Jon has taught many prominent surgeons through his Royal College of Surgeons of England-approved Hip Fellowship over a decade. Clinically, he has performed over 4,000 joint replacements, hundreds of complex revision surgeries, and over 1,000 hip arthroscopy procedures, treating prominent individuals and professional athletes. Academically, Jon has chaired or lectured at major orthopaedic meetings globally and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. He has served on the British Hip Society’s Non-Arthroplasty Hip Registry board, helping to develop a pioneering registry for hip surgeries other than joint replacements. In 2022, Jon was appointed Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi. He also served on the board of Harrogate Hospital in the UK, overseeing surgical specialties, anaesthesia, paediatrics, and obstetrics and gynaecology. Jon is passionate about patient care, emphasizing non-operative options before surgery. He adopts a cautious and well-trained approach to new technology, ensuring safety and efficacy in treatments.
